In this painting by legendary Disney Fine Arts Artist Peter Ellenshaw and Harrison Ellenshaw, the submarine Nautilus has surfaced just off the coast of Captain Nemo's secret base, the island of Vulcania. But there is a fleet of enemy warships waiting and, knowing that he has been betrayed, Nemo realizes that they must submerge the submarine, go through an intricate underwater tunnel and find a way to destroy the island before his atomic secrets are revealed to the world. From the 1954 Walt Disney Pictures film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This painting has an extra special meaning to Harrison Ellenshaw: "I was very young, but I remember vividly going with my father to the back lot tank at 20th Century Fox and watching the filming of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Seeing big stars like James Mason and Kirk Douglas in a Jules Verne fantasy was pure magic. I'll never forget those days." Medium: Giclee |
