Third Disney Destination Sacramento Art Released at Stage Nine on January 29
Special Event Feb. 7 to Feature Talent behind Disney’s
“Jiminy Cricket” and “Belle” Characters Featured in Art Piece
(Sacramento, CA – January 26, 2009) -- Stage Nine Entertainment Store in Old Sacramento, in conjunction with the Sacramento Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the Delta King, will celebrate its ninth annual Disney event with a visit from the talent behind two of Disney’s iconic characters, “Jiminy Cricket” and “Belle” on Saturday, February 7 from Noon-4:00 p.m. Featured at the event will be the third Disney “Destination Sacramento” artwork, quite an honor for Sacramento. This year’s piece, by artist Rodel Gonzalez, is titled “King of the River” will feature the Delta King with more than a dozen beloved Disney characters. Eddie Carroll, the voice of “Jiminy Cricket” and Paige O’Hara, the voice of “Belle” will be present to sign the art piece and autographs. The event will take place on the Delta King, across the street from Stage Nine Entertainment Store at 102 K Street in Old Sacramento.
Sacramento was born out of the river. It was the “river city” and the river was its lifeblood at the height of the Gold Rush. 2009 also marks the 80th anniversary of Disney’s “Steamboat Willie” cartoon, thus making for a very strong tie between a historic Disney cartoon and the Sacramento landscape. Disney artist, Rodel Gonzalez, will be available to sign purchased artwork. The piece will be available in limited edition on canvas and paper. Canvas editions will be limited to 80 pieces for $650 each and an edition of 500 lithographs on paper will be available for $119. Pre-orders are available now. Those who purchase the piece will be able to enjoy an entire day in Old Sacramento as they will receive two tickets for a riverboat tour on the afternoon of February 7.
“The first and second Destination Sacramento pieces, ‘Arriving in Style’ and ‘Flying over Sacramento’ were so successful that Disney was pleased to commission a third art piece featuring a Sacramento icon,” explained Troy Carlson, owner of The Vault at Stage Nine. “It is highly unusual for Disney to commission three destination pieces that feature a city the size of Sacramento. It is a first for a U.S. city to be featured three times by Disney, other than a Disney park. We are pleased to help Sacramento raise its profile internationally through Disney’s fine art,” added Carlson.
“For over a decade Stage Nine Entertainment has been one of the most influential entertainment art galleries in the country, and we are thrilled to have them as a Disney Fine Art partner,” explained Michael Young, Disney Fine Artist Liaison.
Stage Nine will bring the art piece to life by bringing the talent behind two of the featured characters to Sacramento to meet their fans and autograph purchased artwork. Both will be available for interviews on Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7.
Eddie Carroll, now busy with a one-man show called “Jack Benny, Laughter in Bloom”, has been the voice of the iconic “Jiminy Cricket” character since 1971. Jiminy Cricket has become a conscientious advisor over the world
and could certainly offer a little practical wisdom in today’s world. Carroll is available on Friday Feb. 6 and Saturday Feb. 7 for studio interviews or by phone before then.
Paige O’Hara, best known as the voice of Belle in the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast, has a career that spanned Broadway, opera and concert stages as well as recordings. Starring roles in Showboat, Les Miserables, Edwin Drood, Oklahoma, and South Pacific are but a few of her credits. She sang to millions on the Academy Awards telecast, performing the Oscar-nominated song from Beauty and the Beast. O’Hara is currently appearing in the Las Vegas hit show, Menopause the Musical at the Las Vegas Hilton. O’Hara is available on Thursday, Feb. 5, Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb 7 for studio interviews or by phone before then.
Artist Rodel Gonzalez is a rising star in the Disney fine art world. Gonzalez created the concept of “King of the River” in partnership with and exclusively for Stage Nine Gallery. “This stunning original painting pays homage to Sacramento’s rich heritage and the spirit of adventure and celebration which is synonymous with many of Disney’s classic animated characters,” said Carlson. “Rodel Gonzalez has created a painting that will capture both the fantasy of the Disney world and the iconic, history beauty of Sacramento’s Delta King at its prime. It is a special piece for any Sacramento Disney fan,” added Carlson.
The Vault at Stage Nine has partnered with Sacramento Rotary to make this piece a fund-raiser for their efforts to eradicate Polio internationally. Bob Mutchler of Folsom, who was afflicted with Polio as a child, has become an international advocate for Polio eradication through Rotary International and is leading this fund-raising effort. For each piece sold through Rotary, 50% will stay with Rotary for their Polio eradication fund.
